 Anemic children may be malnourished: Civil surgeon Dr. Balwinder Kumar

Civil surgeon Dr. Balwinder Kumar Damana, the District Health Department has started a health checkup awareness campaign to root out anemia in the district. Under this link, the National Child Health Program (RBSCO) teams of the Health Department are conducting health check-up of children in various schools of the district and awareness programs are being run under Anemia Mukt Punjab campaign.

Sharing information about this, Civil Surgeon Dr. Balwinder Kumar Damana told that the Punjab government has started the Anemia Mukt Punjab campaign. Under which awareness is being spread along with screening of anemia in schools. Anemia is a concern for the health of children. This is a global problem, which affects children the most. He said that this is not a disease but the root of many diseases. He said that the main symptoms of anemia in children are always fatigue, rapid and sudden decrease in heartbeat, headache, pain in the whole body and bones, difficulty in breathing and yellowing of the skin. He said that children suffering from anemia can also become victims of malnutrition and their whole life can be affected. Anemia depletes physical energy, reducing the ability to work. If a pregnant woman is suffering from anemia, the baby will be underweight.

Dr. Damana said that girls become victims of anemia due to menstruation in adolescence. To meet its deficiency, one should always eat nutritious food rich in iron. Considering this, pomegranate, tomato, apple, beetroot, kiwi fruit, dates, jaggery, sugarcane juice, amla, coarse grains, gram, spinach, fish, eggs, honey, vegetables and pulses should be used in food for the prevention of anemia. Due to which the prescribed amount of blood remains in the body.
