More than 4000 people have been shifted to safe places from flood affected areas: Komal Mittal

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that the flood situation in the district is improving day by day and the district administration is providing all necessary help to the people. She was talking to reporters while visiting villages Nawa Ghar, Nawan Patti, Bela Saryana, Chak Mirpur, Ulaha in Mukerian today. He said that due to the recent heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, the water level of the Pong Dam has increased and water is being continuously released from the Pong Dam. She said that the amount of water released on August 14 and 15 was very high, which has gradually reduced now. She said that 19 villages of Mukerian sub-division and 5 villages of Tanda sub-division have been affected due to floods. About 7 thousand people of these villages have been affected by the flood, out of which more than 4 thousand people have been taken out of their houses by the administration and taken to safe places. Now people are returning to their homes as the water level is going down.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration teams and the Red Cross are providing all possible help to the people. She said that our teams had set up relief camps in the villages yesterday too, where information was obtained from the people regarding their needs and the damage caused in the floods. She said that at present our focus is on the health of the people. Apart from this, animal husbandry department is paying attention to animal health and fodder. Power restoration has started in the places where electricity was affected. Apart from this, the supply of drinking water will also be started in every place in a smooth manner.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that according to the instructions of the Punjab government regarding the loss of life due to floods, the victims will be compensated as soon as possible. She said that the compensation amount will be transferred to the accounts of the victims by compensating the damage caused to crops, people's houses, clothes, utensils, animals. She said that in this regard, flood relief camps have been set up in the flood-affected villages of Haled Janardan, Sanyal, Bela Saryana and Abdullahpur of Tanda. She said that officials from all relevant departments including revenue, police administration, agriculture, animal husbandry department, health department were present in these camps and all of them have received complaints from the people. She said that after receiving the complaints from the people, the teams will assess the damage on the basis of the complaints and the victims will be compensated as per the rules.
