Team JITK shines in the Independence Cup All India Karate Championship

The trainees of Jagmohan's Institute of Traditional Karate ( JITK) performed commendably and won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals for the Punjab team in India's prestigious Independence Cup All India Karate Championship. More than 21 hundred karatekas (karate players) from India and Nepal participated in this karate competition held last Sunday at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi under the leadership of Mentor of Indian Karate and Commonwealth Karate Federation Vice President Hanshi Bharat Sharma. Team JITK ITK, who is taking training from internationally renowned karate coach and international referee Sensei Jagmohan Vij. 7 players from JITK were selected for the competition! Kata and Kumite competitions were organised in senior, junior, cadet and sub-junior categories of boys and girls in this competition which lasted for 3 days. The jury of the competition consisted of the office-bearers and members of the National Referee Commission, as well as senior Indian referees and judges from the World Karate Federation and the Asian Karate Federation, headed by technical officials; Shihan Premjit Sen (West Bengal), Shaheen Akhtar, Paramjit Singh, Haridas Govind, Anup Ashok Dethe, Amit Shah (Maharashtra), Shaji Kottaram, Ram deyal (Kerala), Altaf Alam, R Muthu Raju, Kalees (Tamil Nadu), Rajesh Agarwal ( Gujarat), Vijay Kumar (Uttar Pradesh), Dominic Savio (Karnataka), Jagmohan Vij (Punjab), Vishal Jaiswal (Delhi), Soibam Chanu (Manipur), Harish Siradhana (Haryana), Altaf Sayeed (Gujarat) and Rajeev Singh Odisha etc.
Hoshiarpur's Dhairya Kalia, representing Punjab, won the gold medal in the under 40kg boys' under 40kg category in the 9-10 years age group, While in the junior boys category, Arpit Sharma got the distinction of winning the silver medal. Aditya Bakshi, an international karate participant in the team, won bronze medals in the under 84 kg category for senior boys and Akshita Sharma in the under 40 kg category for sub-junior girls. The performance of Manisha Kumari, Dilshan Saddal and Vivek Sharma in the team was satisfactory.
