Jagmohan Vij of Punjab selected for referee course in World Karate Championship at Budapest

Punjab's internationally renowned karate coach and international referee Sensei Jagmohan Vij has been selected by the Karate India organisation ( KIO,) for the Referee Course organised by world karate federation during 26th Senior World Karate Championship to be held in Budapest (Hungary). He is the only referee from North India selected for this prestigious competition. According to Sensei Sanjeev Kumar Jangra, General Secretary, KIO referees from all over India has been selected for the referee course and Indian Team which includes 12 selected karatekas will represent India at this prestigious world karate championship under the leadership of Mentor of Indian Karate and Executive Member of Asian Karate Federation Hanshi Bharat Sharma.
About 1200 players, referees and technical officials from more than 100 countries will participate in this championship, which will start from tomorrow till October 29. According to Jagmohan Vij, this is the first World Karate Championship to be organized under the new rules implemented by the World Karate Federation in 2023. In which joy sticks will be used instead of flags to give points to the players. under the guidance of World Karate Federation's Referee Commission Chairman, Javier Escalante (Sweden) and Secretary Fariba Madani (USA), Sensei Natalija Dajcman (Austria), Assistant Secretary, WKF Referee Commission and Sensei Mansour Al Sultan, Chairman , Asian Karate Federation's Referee Commission from Kuwait will brief the selected referees about the new rules.
It is noteworthy that Jagmohan Vij has earlier also participated in the Karate Premier League Organised by the World Karate Federation in UAE in Dubai (2019), Fujairah (2022) and Cairo, Africa (2023) and in the Junior World Karate Championship held in Konya, Turkey last year.
He is the only referee from North India to officiate.
Jagmohan is the first and only karate coach not only from Punjab but also from states like Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir etc. to achieve this feat.
Jagmohan, who has combined experience as a judge, referee, chief referee and tournament director, has a reputation for his impartial decision-making.
Jagmohan has officiated and has a long experience of more than 60 international and about 232 state and national level competitions which were held in Hong Kong, China, Philippines, America, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Uzbekistan, Italy, France, Turkey and Egypt. And because of this specialty, he is invited as Chief Referee or Tournament Director in different states of India.
