 Till now there has been 77 percent decline in incidents of burning of stubble in the district as compared to last year: Komal Mittal

- Deputy Commissioner visited the fields related to stubble management and took stock

- Appealed to farmers to save the environment by not burning stubble.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that in order to save the environment and follow the orders of the National Green Tribunal, the district administration and the agriculture department are continuously making different efforts to make the farmers aware about the smooth management of stubble. She said that till November 3, 2023, fire incidents have been recorded at a total of 50 places in the district by the Punjab Remote Sensing Center, Ludhiana, whereas in the last year 2022, till the said date, 222 incidents were recorded. She said that till November 3, there has been a 77 percent decline in fire incidents as compared to last year.

In this series, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal took stock of the stubble management work in the district. She visited village Nariyala of Block Mahilpur where he appealed to the farmers to manage the stubble in different ways instead of burning it. On this occasion, she also visited the fields of those farmers who are sowing wheat by managing the stubble without burning it with the help of super seeder. Farmer Harminder Singh, present on the occasion, on whose behalf stubble management is being done in the fields of the farmers of the area, said that with the help of his super seeder, she is helping other farmers to sow wheat at a reasonable rate without burning the stubble. Is being done and on its behalf, sowing has been done by farmers in about 100 acres using this method.

Komal Mittal appealed to the farmers not to burn the stubble at all during the coming days and stressed on proper management of it with the help of the machinery available in their district. She instructed the officials of the Group Agriculture Department to provide all possible help to the farmers and to visit the fields regularly so that incidents of burning of stubble do not occur in the district. On this occasion, SDM Garhshankar Preetinder Singh Bains and Agriculture Development Officer Dr. Harpreet Singh appealed to the farmers to take maximum advantage of the stubble management machinery available in the custom hiring center established in the block and appealed to the farmers to take maximum advantage of the stubble management machinery available in the district administration.
