- On Vijay Diwas, Cabinet Minister paid tribute to the martyrs at the war memorial

- Said, because of the martyrdom of soldiers, today we are breathing in open air.

Cabinet Minister Bram Shankar Jimpa today paid tribute to the 3900 soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the India-Pakistan war of 1971 and the freedom struggle of Bangladesh at the War Memorial, Hoshiarpur, on Vijay Diwas.

On the occasion of India's victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, the Cabinet Minister while paying tribute to the martyrs said that 103 soldiers of our district were martyred in this war. He said that Vijay Diwas inspires us to maintain true devotion and loyalty towards the country. It is only because of the martyrdom of our brave soldiers to maintain the integrity of the country that we are able to breathe in the open air today. He said that the society will always be indebted to its brave soldiers, who have always protected the honor of the country despite adverse circumstances. He said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is giving ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to the families of the martyred soldiers of the state while saluting their martyrdom.

Bram Shankar Jimpa said that the Punjab government is committed to honoring its brave soldiers. He called upon the youth to come forward to serve the country and said that whatever field they work in, they should first keep the national interest paramount. He said that the 1971 war was completely an example of military and political strategy. He also congratulated Bangladesh for being categorized by the United Nations as a developed nation from a least developed country. He said that our country will always be indebted to our brave martyred soldiers. On this occasion, Mayor Surinder Kumar, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, Deputy Mayor Ranjita Chaudhary, Lieutenant General (Retd) J.S. Dhillon, Gurmeet Saini, retired officers of the Indian Army and other dignitaries were also present.
