Deputy Commissioner instructed the officials to inspect the black spots of the district and take immediate action.

- Traffic, transport and school education departments were also instructed to organize awareness rallies and seminars in collaboration with NGOs.

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today held a meeting with officials of different departments at the District Administrative Complex and issued guidelines to them regarding Road Safety Month. While making them aware of the serious situation of accidents occurring due to violation of traffic rules, he called upon people to be careful about the traffic rules and also to make others aware. On this occasion she was accompanied by SSP Surendra Lamba,  RTA Ravinder Singh Gill, officers from other departments were also present.

The Deputy Commissioner said that there were 44 black spots related to old road accidents in the district, which have now reduced to 23. She instructed the National Highways Authority of India, Public Works Department, Mandi Board and Municipal Corporation Hoshiarpur to inspect these black spots with the concerned traffic in-charge and take action to fix them as soon as possible. Apart from this, the grass and weeds on the roadside should be cleared so that the white strip on the road is clearly visible to the driver.  Instructed the Traffic Department and School Education Department to organize road safety awareness rallies and awareness seminars in collaboration with NGOs.

Komal Mittal said that it is necessary to have reflectors on every vehicle because due to lack of reflectors on vehicles, accidents happen in darkness and fog. She instructed the Regional Transport Authority and the Traffic Police to take the work of installing reflectors on vehicles as a campaign and to spread maximum awareness regarding traffic rules among the people. She appealed to the residents of the district that road accidents happen only when traffic rules are not followed, hence it should be ensured that traffic rules are followed. Regional Transport Officer Ravinder Singh Gill said that the department is continuously installing reflectors on vehicles and radium belts have also been put around the necks of stray animals so that accidents can be prevented in fog.
