 A One-Day Workshop on Drug Abuse and its Treatment  organized at  Department of Forest and Wildlife Protection, Punjab (Punjab Forest Guard Training School, Hoshiarpur)

As per the instructions of Smt. Komal Mittal, I.A.S. Hon'ble Deputy Commissioner cum Chairperson and Dr. Harbans Kaur, Deputy Medical Commissioner cum Member Secretary, District Drug De-addiction Rehabilitation Society, Hoshiarpur, under the leadership of S. Satnam Singh I.F.S. , Conservator of Forest (Research & Training) Ladowal Ludhiana Circle, Sh. Rajesh Kumar I.F.S. Divisional Forest Officer and in the presence of  S. Gurdeep Singh Forest Range Officer Course In-charge an One Day awareness workshop on drug abuse, its causes, and its treatment was organized during the 56th Forest Guard Training Course at Punjab Forest Guard Training School, Hoshiarpur. Dr. Rhoit Brutta Medical Officer from Urban Civil Dispensary Canal Colony of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Hoshiarpur, was specially present. On this occasion, Prashant Aadia Counsellor, District Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre and Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur, Psychiatric Social Worker, Department of Psychiatry, Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur were the Chief Resource Persons.

On this occasion, Dr. Sukhpreet Kaur said that Punjab, the land of Five Aabs, where the youth used to consume milk, butter, ghee and work hard. The Punjabi youth, who were called the nation of lions, today the youth of the same Punjab is indulging into drugs, which is proving to be an alarming bell for the society. On this occasion she gave detailed  information regarding the ill effects of the drug abuse through PPT.

On this occasion, Prashant Aadia Counsellor gave detailed information about the causes, symptoms, and treatment of the drug abuse. He said that treatment of Drug Abuse is provided by the Health Department under the supervision of Dr. Raj Kumar  Psychiatrist and other health staff. Detoxification of patients is done from 15-21 days at De-addiction Centre, Civil Hospital Hoshiarpur and Dasuya. After this, the patient is kept in the Government Rehabilitation Center for 90 days for rehabilitation. Where  Counselling, Sports, Vocational Courses are provided to the patients. Apart from this, medicines are given to the patients' on  daily basis in OOAT clinics at district level, tehsil level and all CSC level, with which the patient can do his routine work.
