Under the activities being carried out by the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to unite the people against drugs, the district police organized a district level sports event on the theme ‘Yes to life, no to drugs’ at the Police Line Ground, in which 34 teams of football, basketball and kabaddi participated. During this, Cabinet Minister Punjab Bram Shankar Jimpa attended as the chief guest. During this, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, Mayor Surinder Kumar, SSP Surender Lamba and other dignitaries were also present.


Cabinet Minister Bram Shankar said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will leave no stone unturned in its resolve to make the state drug-free. He said that the attention of the youth has been attracted towards sports due to these sports events organized from village to district level and the youth who is attracted towards sports will never go towards drugs. He said that the district and police administration are working together to eliminate drug abuse from the state to the district level, but the administration can succeed only when it gets full support from the people. Therefore, the district residents should cooperate with the administration so that the drug dealers can be arrested. Bram Shankar Jimpa said that he hopes that we all together will soon realize the dream of Chief Minister Punjab of 'Rangle Punjab'. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the district administration is constantly making the people of the district aware for complete prevention of drug abuse. She said that the administration is organizing activities from time to time and the people trapped in the quagmire of drug abuse are being admitted to de-addiction centres and are being given free treatment. She said that after treatment, the district administration is also working on different schemes for the rehabilitation of these people so that after recovery, they can be connected with the mainstream.


S.S.P. Surendra Lamba said that Hoshiarpur Police is committed to complete elimination of drug abuse. He said that special campaigns are being run against drug abuse at the police station level in the district and those involved in drug trafficking are being cracked down on. He said that to save the youth from drug abuse, the district police has organized a 6-day sports competition, under which sports competitions were organized from village to block level at the police station level and now football, basketball and kabaddi competitions are being organized at the district level. He said that the winning teams will be given trophies, certificates as well as cash prizes. Apart from this, certificates will also be given to the teams participating in these competitions. While telling about the action taken by the district police against drug abuse, he said that in this month of June itself, the district police has registered 68 FIRs and taken action against more than 90 drug smugglers. He said that the cooperation of the public is very important in this campaign to end drug abuse and he assures the people of the district that the names of those who inform the police about drug traffickers will be kept secret and strict action will be taken against those involved in this business. On this occasion, SP Sarbjit Singh Bahia, SP Major Singh, SDM Hoshiarpur Preetinder Singh Bains, Chairman Hoshiarpur Cooperative Bank Vikram Sharma, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, Councillors Balwinder Bindi, Drupan Saini, Varinder Sharma Bindu, Chandan Lucky and other dignitaries were also present.
