- Deputy Commissioner along with officials visited Takhani causeway, Bassi Wahid, Mahingrowal Choa and Bhagowal causeway and inspected the flood protection works


- Said, concrete steps should be taken immediately for the safety of the damaged causeway


- Appealed to the residents of the district to stay away from dams, rivers, canals, ravines, choas and low lying areas

Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that no stone will be left unturned to deal with the possible flood in the district. She was addressing the gathering today while inspecting the causeway of Mahingrowal Choa and village Bhagowal adjoining village Takhani, Bassi Wahid. On this occasion, SDM Hoshiarpur Preetinder Singh Bains was also present with him. The Deputy Commissioner said that today she inspected those places where water had come last year. She said that the purpose of the visit is to get flood protection works done in these places in a more solid manner so that people do not face any problem.


The Deputy Commissioner said that all the solid arrangements have been ensured by the district administration to deal with the possible flood so that such a situation can be dealt with smoothly. During this, he instructed the Public Works, Drainage and other officials to immediately work on the safety of the causeway damaged due to water. She said that while the district administration is making continuous efforts to provide relief to the people from the possible flood, efforts are also being made to save the crops of the farmers from the flood water.


The Deputy Commissioner, while inspecting the flood protection works in Mahingrowal Choa adjoining village Basi Wahid, instructed the officials of the Drainage Department to ensure that the flood water does not enter the village. She has instructed all the SDMs of the district to ensure solid arrangements to deal with the possible flood like situation in their sub-divisions. She directed the concerned officials to carry out the proposed flood protection works with utmost seriousness. She asked the SDMs and the officials of the drainage department to work in coordination with each other.


Komal Mittal appealed to the people of the district to be cautious and said that they should stay away from dams, rivers, canals, ravines, choas and low lying areas. She also appealed to the people of the Gujjar community to keep their animals etc. away from these areas. She said that due to rains, the level of water in the choas and rivers increases considerably. She said that it has been observed that some people take animals etc. to the choas and rivers for bathing and to do many other things like bathing and many times they gather together to watch the flowing water and make videos, due to which many times unpleasant incidents occur. She has instructed the SDMs and the officials of the drainage department to select the affected villages as well as immediately inspect the rivers / Dhussi dams. On this occasion, Axis Drainage Damandeep Singh, SDO Drainage Karandeep Singh and other officers were also present.
