Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today expressed deep grief over a tragic accident caused by the strong current of water in Jejon Choa. In this incident, an Innova car, carrying 12 people, was swept away by the strong current of water. 9 people have died tragically in this accident, while two people are still missing. One person has been rescued safely with the help of NDRF and local people.


Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal visited the spot as soon as she got information about the incident and took stock of the rescue operations going on at the spot. She said that the bodies of the 9 people killed in the accident have been recovered, and rescue operations are continuing by the NDRF team to search for the missing people.


She said that this accident happened due to an Innova car coming from Himachal Pradesh getting caught in the strong current of water in Jejon Choa. The occupants of the vehicle were on their way from Dehla village of Mehatpur in Himachal Pradesh to attend a wedding ceremony in Nawanshahr in Punjab. Unfortunately, the vehicle was swept away due to the rising waters of the Choa on the way, leading to this tragic incident.


The Deputy Commissioner said that after receiving information about the incident, SDM Garhshankar Shivraj Singh Bal immediately reached the spot and started coordinating rescue operations. Along with this, the NDRF team was also informed immediately, who immediately started rescue operations.


Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal expressed deep condolences over the accident and expressed condolences to the bereaved families. She said that the district administration stands with the affected families in this sad hour and will provide all possible assistance. She appealed to the people to exercise extreme caution around any type of dam, river, canal, ravines and low lying areas during the rainy season and follow the instructions issued by the administration so that such accidents can be avoided.


The Deputy Commissioner also assured that the search and rescue operations for the missing persons would be continued on war footing and no stone would be left unturned in this direction.
