An important meeting of the district level committee was held today in the District Administrative Complex under the Narco Co-ordination Centre (NCARD) mechanism to review the campaigns being run against drugs and discuss the upcoming action plans. This meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal and SSP Surendra Lamba. Officers from various departments including Police, Excise, School Education, Health, Sports, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Youth Services Department also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that the district administration is fully committed in the fight against drugs. In this fight, active participation of not only the administration but also all sections of the society is necessary. We have to take such steps together, which not only prevent drug abuse but also increase public awareness against it. He instructed the officers present to regularly review the progress of the campaigns being run against drug abuse in their respective departments and take more concrete steps in this direction. Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal instructed the SDMs to activate the sub-divisional committees and get the activities done in collaboration with their police counterparts. He instructed all the departments to work in mutual coordination.

SSP Surendra Lamba highlighted the actions of the police department against drug abuse in the meeting. He said that the district police has made continuous efforts to tighten the noose on drug smugglers. Many drug smugglers have been arrested and strict action has been taken against them. He said that the police department is making every possible effort to break the drug network and the cooperation of the public is also very important in this. He informed that all the police stations of the district have been directed to run public awareness campaigns against drug abuse and involve every section of the society in it. SSP Surendra Lamba also stressed that every department will have to fulfill its responsibility so that the district can be made drug free.

During the meeting, officials of various departments informed about the steps taken by them against drug abuse. The police department informed about the action taken against drug smugglers, while the health department informed about the status of de-addiction centers and their activities. The school education department informed about the campaigns run to spread awareness among students about the ill effects of drugs.

On this occasion, SP (D) Sarbjit Singh Bahia, SP (Headquarters) Manoj Thakur, SDM Garhshankar Shivraj Singh Bal, SDM Tanda Preetinder Singh Bains, SDM Hoshiarpur Sanjeev Sharma, SDM Dasuha Pradeep Singh Bains, besides officials of different departments were also present.
