 PAU-KVK, Hoshiarpur organizes training programme on paddy residue management

As in previous years, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur is organizing different extension and training programmes in the different parts of the district. In this context, a five-day training programme on paddy residue management technologies for the farmers of paddy residue management adopted village Bugra of block Mahilpur was organized from 11th to 18th September, 2024 at village Bugra and at KVK campus.

At the start of the training, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur welcomed the farmers and highlighted the harmful effects of burning of paddy residue burning and discussed various technological options for paddy residue management in detail. He also informed the farmers about the benefits of adopting paddy residue management techniques. Dr. Bons also exhorted the farmers for pursuing this noble cause of non-burning of paddy residue and assured that the farmers of the village Bugra will get paddy residue management machinery on priority basis for use from KVK.

During this training programme, Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), KVK Hoshiarpur gave detailed information about the problems faced and their solution, while working with paddy residue management machinery like Super SMS, Smart Seeder, Surface Seeder, Super Seeder, Happy Seeder, mould board plough, zero till drill, etc., in the fields. He laid stress on need of custom hiring and cooperative basis for proper utilization of paddy residue machineries. 

Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), KVK Hoshiarpur discussed about the different nutrients available in paddy residue and need for their preservation, use of paddy straw in biogas plants and as fodder. 

Progressive farmers of the village i.e. S. Taranjit Singh Mann and S. Manmohan Singh Khalsa shared their experiences about the paddy residue management techniques in their fields also. 

PAU literature were made available for the benefit of the farmers on this occasion and the farmers had fruitful discussion with the experts on their queries regarding paddy residue management.
