PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur organized a village level awareness camp at adopted village Ranipind in block Tanda on 25-9-2024 in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Tanda.


The farmers were extended a warm welcome by Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur and he urged the farmers to shun residue burning for safeguarding the environment. He highlighted that custom hiring centers on paddy residue machinery have been formed in the block and laid stress on need of custom hiring and cooperative basis for proper utilization of paddy residue machineries. He also shed light on the improved cultivation and plant protection practices for wheat and gobhi sarson.


Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), KVK Hoshiarpur highlighted the harmful effects of burning of crop residue burning and exhorted the farmers to successfully pursue the noble cause of non-burning of paddy residue in campaign mode. He discussed about various residue management technologies like Super SMS, Happy Seeder, Smart Seeder, Surface Seeder, Super Seeder, reversible mould board plough, mulcher, zero till drill, cutter and baler for the effective management of paddy residue and also shared information regarding their working.


Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), KVK Hoshiarpur, addressed the farmers regarding use of paddy straw for fodder purposes, in mushroom cultivation, paddy straw based biogas plant, for bio char, and as mulch and also shared important tips on seasonal management of dairy animals.


Dr. Yashpal, Agriculture Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Tanda gave a brief overview of the different schemes of the department for the welfare of the farmers and urged the farmers to follow the recommended practices. He also highlighted the various steps being taken by the district administration and the department for paddy residue management in the block.


Dr. Lovejit Singh, Agriculture Development Officer in Tanda, emphasized the importance of adopting various farm machinery for effective management of paddy residue. He also coordinated with key stakeholders to assist farmers in implementing the ex-situ paddy residue management using balers.


Nambardar S. Gurmantar Singh Basra from village Ranipind recited a poem highlighting the harmful effects of burning paddy residue in the fields.


For the benefit of the farmers, seed of gobhi sarson, berseem, onion, winter vegetable seed kits, mineral mixture, uromin lick and bye-pass fat was facilitated and PAU literature was also provided.


Progressive farmers, Nambardar S. Gurmantar Singh Basra, Nambardar S. Jasbir Singh, S. Dalbir Singh, S. Pritam Singh, S. Surjit Singh, S. Tejbir Singh, S. Balwinder Singh, S. Charnjit Singh, S. Karnail Singh, S. Harminder Singh, S. Maninder Singh from villages Ranipind, Dumana, Pulpukhta, Awaan Ghore Shah, Barriar and Ferozeraulian participated in the programme.


In the end, S. Gurnek Singh Basra from village Ranipind proposed the vote of thanks.
