 All set for Panchayats polls in Hoshiarpur



·         Poll preparedness and necessary arrangements put in place at 1683 polling booths


·         Deputy Commissioner & SSP brief poll staff dispatched for different locations


·         Polling to be held from 8 am to 4 pm on Tuesday


·         2730 candidates in fray for Sarpanch and 6751 for panches in district villages

The District Administration has put in place all necessary arrangements besides preparations at all 1683 polling booths setup for panchayats election.


Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Komal Mittal said that polling would be held from 8 am to 4 pm on Tuesday while the counting would also take place immediate after the completion of voting. More than 10,000 polling staff is deployed for election duty in the district.  The Deputy Commissioner and SSP Surendra Lamba gave a joint dispatch briefing to the polling staff for ensuring smooth, free and fair election. They visited the local Pandit J.R. Polytechnic College and some of other locations to review the final arrangements.


                Deputy Commissioner also urged the voters to reach their respective polling stations well within the stipulated time so that they could easily cast their votes. As many as 10 blocks having 1683 polling booths in the district, said Deputy Commissioner adding that there are 1405 gram panchayats and 8041 wards. The total number of voters for panchayati polls are 989093 in the district. As many as 2730 contestants were in fray for the election Sarpanch while 6751 were contesting elections for panches. She said that 265 panchayats were elected unanimously in the district.


                Referring to security arrangements, SSP Surendra Lamba said that more than 3500 police officials had been deployed so that peaceful elections could be ensured. He said that 65 patrolling parties were in the field while 14 DSPs and four Superintendents of Police were monitoring the law & order arrangements. He said that security had been already beefed up at sensitive and hyper sensitive polling booths.


                Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner also pointed out that the voters can cast their vote by showing identity proof as Aadhar Card, Voter Card, PAN card, Passport, MGNREGA Job Card, Driving License, Ration Card, Blue Card, Bank and post office passbook having photos of voters, Health Insurance Card issued by Ministry of Labour, Service Identity Card of State Government, Centre Government, PSUs and Limited Company etc.
