 District Legal Services Authority organized Jail Lok Adalat and Legal Awareness Program

Following the guidelines of Member Secretary Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, Mohali and the orders of District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority Dilbag Singh Johal, Jail Lok Adalat was organized in Central Jail Hoshiarpur. This court was conducted by CJM-cum-Secretary District Legal Services Authority Rajpal Rawal.

Cases related to minor crimes were heard in the Jail Lok Adalat and were settled on the spot. Apart from this, the cleanliness of the jail premises, the quality of food prepared in the kitchen and the condition of the prisoners undergoing treatment in the jail hospital were known. During this, Legal Aid Defense Council Chief Vishal Kumar and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Council Niharika were also present.

Apart from this, a legal literacy seminar was organized by Secretary District Legal Services Authority Rajpal Rawal in Government Senior Secondary School Jejon. On this occasion, students were informed about “Punjab Crime Victim Compensation Scheme 2017” and “Compensation Scheme for Women/Children Victims of Sexual Assault/Other Crimes 2018”. It was told in the seminar that front offices have been established at all the districts and sub-division levels. Needy persons can go to these offices and get free legal aid. Women, children (below 18 years), undertrials, victims of natural disasters, mentally ill, industrial workers, Scheduled Castes/Tribes, transgenders and persons whose annual income is less than Rs 3 lakh, such beneficiaries are eligible for free legal services. The free legal aid provided by the authority includes appointment of a lawyer, fees, witness expenses and reimbursement of other expenses. The principal and teachers of the school were also present in the program. In the end, promotional material related to free legal services was distributed by the District Legal Services Authority.
