Bags ‘Best Green District’ under Green School Programme, Will get award on Feb 4 at Delhi


Deputy Commissioner commends tireless efforts and contribution of officials for this achievement

The Hoshiarpur district has bagged the prestigious ‘Best Green District’ Award under the Green School Programme auditing 2024-25 of Union Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change. As many as 12 schools of the district have been chosen under this prestigious programme while Hoshiarpur has also completed green auditing process  in 1945 schools, which is the highest number from any district in the country. The Best Green District Award will be conferred to District Administration on February 4 at New Delhi.  


The Green School Programme (GSP) auditing  was initiated in associatioin with Punjab State Council for Science & Technology by establishing over 8000 Eco-Clubs in schools and colleges across the state.  


          The GSP auditing was based on the eco-friendly measures to ensure healthy environment in the schools including air quality, water and waste management, quality of food, land availablity and energy system. In a comminique to the Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal, the Punjab State Council for Science & Technology stipulates that the Hoshiarpur district has recorded remarkable success under Green School Programme auditing. Under the programme, a total 11917 schools across the state registered of which 7406 schools had successfully compleed the auditing.


          Lauding the contribution and efforts put in by the staff of Education Department and Administrative officials in the district to make the auditing a great success, Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal said that as many as 345 schools across the country selected as Green Schools based on the established criteria including 196 from Punjab of which 12 schools from district Hoshiarpur. She said that the Hoshiarpur had emerged as leading district in the india for green auditing with accomplishment of auditing process in 1945 schools, which is the highest number from any district in the country.


          Deputy Commissioner also reiterated that the efforts will remain continue for ensuring complete compliance of eco-friendly measures in other schools too.  Meanwhile, District Education Officer Lalita Arora gave the credit of this rare feat to able guidance of administration and tireless efforts of officials of education department. The selected 12 schools are Government Senior Secondry School, Chohal and Jallowal Khanoor, Government High School, Gobindpur Khun-Khun, Government Girls High School, Soos Pajjoditta, Government High School, Bassi Gulam Hussain, Government Elementary Schools, Jamsher Chathial, Mohri Chak, Saidon Naushehra, Sajjan & Satial, Woodland Overseas School and St. Paul's Junior Convent School.  Pertinently, the District Development Fellow Zoya Siddiqui, Deputy D.E.O. Dhiraj Kumar, D.E.O. Harjinder Singh, Science Coordinator Ashok Kalia and their teams played a significant role to make this programme a great success in the district.
