 Training on hybrid seed production of maize organized at PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kender

A training programme on hybrid seed production of maize was recently organized at PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur by Maize Section, Department of Plant Breeding & Genetics, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. In this training, 28 progressive farmers from different villages of district Hoshiarpur participated.

At the outset, Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Associate Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur welcomed the experts and participants and gave an insight into the purpose of this training. He also highlighted the farmer welfare activities of PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur.

Dr. Surinder Kaur Sandhu, Principal Maize Breeder and Incharge, Maize Section, Department of Plant Breeding & Genetics, PAU, Ludhiana addressed the farmers on the scope of maize cultivation, its status, constraints and challenges.

On this occasion, different technical lectures were delivered by Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana experts, Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Maize Breeder, Dr. Tarvinder Pal Singh. Senior Plant Breeder, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Principal Agronomist, Dr. Jwala Jindal, Principal Entomologist and Dr. Harleen Kaur, Principal Pathologist on hybrid seed production of maize in Punjab, processing, grading & safe storage of seed, role of improved agronomic practices in sustaining maize cultivation and insect pests & diseases of maize & their management.

The participating farmers had a fruitful discussion with the experts regarding their queries and were also provided PAU literature.

In the end, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), KVK Hoshiarpur thanked the experts and farmers for participating in this training programme.
