Paying rich tributes to the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his 134 birth anniversary, Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Monday said that Baba Saheb was not only a Bharat Ratna but also a Vishav Ratna, who is known across the globe as a great social reformer, champion of women rights, legendary statesman, eminent lawyer, true politician and a great teacher. 

Urging the students that life and teachings of Babasaheb Ambedkar must read, Local Government Minister said that the teachings, struggle and sacrificed of Dr Ambedkar in his life would inspire the youngsters to bring laurels as well as achieving their desired goals. The Cabinet Minister, addressing the youngsters at Government College, said  Baba Saheb is the architect of Indian Constitution, who secured fundamental rights for every citizen ensuring equality in social system. Dr Ambedkar gave India several landmark projects like Reserve Bank of India, Finance Commission, Employment Exchange, which played a significant role in the development of the country, he added. 

Citing Dr Ambedkar’s concept of education, The Minister said that there is no alternative of education so youngsters should focus on higher education to achieve their goals.  The state government is working zealously and enthusiastically in the field of education, health, employment and other sectors to fulfil the dreams of Baba Saheb, he added. 

In his address after paying tributes, Member Parliament  Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal said that Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar emphasized the importance of education and inspired everyone for the same. He said that the initiatives taken by Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, who became the country's first Law Minister, in various fields will always remain a source of inspiration for students, bureaucrats and politicians. He said that Dr. Ambedkar was a great nationalist who had said that “we are Indians from beginning to end”. He said Dr. Ambedkar had many firsts in his name as he was the first law minister of the country, having maximum educational degrees and struggle for sovial reforms throughout his life. Dr Ambedkar gave the concept of equality, liberty and fraternity, which is the foundation of egalitarian society, said Dr Chabbewal adding that he also provided equal rights to women by making provisions in the Constitution thus women are scaling new heights in every field in present era.

Speaking about 

 the efforts made by state government in fulfilling dreams of Dr Ambedkar, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann the state government was laying special focus on 

 education, health and employment in the state. He said that the pictures of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh and Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar in government offices always give a message of patriotism and nationalism.

Addressing the gathering, MLA from Chabbewal Dr. Ishank Kumar said that to realize the dream of Baba Saheb, we should pledge to bring equality in the society and make unified efforts to eradicate backwardness from society. He urged the students to work hard and adopt the ideals of Baba Saheb. 

They also handed over letters to the students under B.R. Ambedkar Post Matric Scholarship Scheme and certificates to beneficiaries under Aashirwad Scheme besides releasing a booklet highlighting the schemes of the Welfare Department.

On this occasion, among others, Mayor Surinder Kumar, Senior Deputy Mayor Praveen Saini, Deputy Mayor Ranjit Chaudhary, Improvement Trust Chairman Gurvinder Singh Pabla, District Planning Committee Chairperson Karamjit Kaur, Member of the Gau Seva Commission Jaspal Singh Chechi, Vice Chairman of the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation Harminder Singh Bakshi, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nikas Kumar, District Welfare Officer Harpal Singh Gill, District Language Officer Dr. Jaswant Rai, Government College Principal Anita Sagar and students of various educational institutions were present.

STUDENTS LAUDS POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME, EXPRESS GRATITUDE TOWARDS PUNJAB GOVERNMENT 

Students of different educational institutes also lauded the Dr. B R Ambedkar Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, which remained helpful for them to pursue higher education. 

Student of D. Pharmacy Mangla Kaur, while sharing her experience during the function, said that she was hapless and unable to pursue her studies due to family reasons as she had lost her father. She said with the help of Post Matric Scholarship Seheme now she is about to accomplish her higher studies. 

Similarly, Student Sandeep Kaur of Government College said that the Scheme had enable her to complete MA Music, which was her dream. ‘My dream is about to fulfil with the help of Post Matric Scholarship Scheme, which made her able to pursue studies’ she added.  

Likewise, student Ritik Takhi expressed gratitude towards Punjab Government for making this scheme more streamline as he is competing his ITI studies. He said his father was a daily wager and he was often worried about the studies but the scheme proved a boon for him. The trio expressed gratitude towards the state government for timely release of amount under the scheme to ensure studies.
