Hoshiarpur/ April 5/Daljeet Ajnoha With a view to beautify and availability of treated water for irrigation, Rajya Sabha Member & world renowned environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh laid foundation stone of rejuvenation work here at the village pond. 


Announcing that the work will be accomplished in next six months, Rajya Sabha Member said that the pond would be rejuvenated at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh including Rs. 10 lakh of his discretionary funds and the remaining from MGNREGS. He pointed out that this project wound facilitate villagers with better environment especially to farmers for getting treated water for irrigation purposes. 


Environment icon Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal said that the pond work would be done on Seechewal Model further improving ecological conditions. Once the work is completed, said Seechewal adding that the treated water would be made available for farmers through underground pipes by the Soil Conservation department. The Seechewal model is adopted by the state Government, which is really an efficient system to treat water besides making ponds clean, green and pollution free.  As of now, around 250 villages have been getting advantage of Seechewal model across Punjab and further be made operational in more villages as per requirement. 


Thanking Rajya Sbah Member for his environment endeavours, Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government was making strenuous efforts for holistic development of rural as well as urban areas. The state government has earmarked Rs. 14.524 crore in the recent budget for agriculture and allied sectors, which is 5 increased as compared to last year. Similarly, in promotion of horticulture and organic farming in some districts including Hoshiarpur, an outlay of Rs. 137 crore is set aside in the budget, he added. 


Dr. Ravjot also pointed out that Punjab government had proposed to install 40 deep tubewells in Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar and Pathankot districts besides 167 small tubewells near the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi canals  at a cost of Rs 85 crore to facilitate agriculture land spanning over 7877 hectares. This step would not only boost existing water supply but also provide seamless supply of water for irrigation purposes. He said after 

 completion of the pond work in village Kandali Narangpur, the pond will get a new and clean look which will be an example for other areas as well.


On the demand of the villagers, Dr. Ravjot Singh also announced a grant of Rs 3 lakh for installing solar lights. MLA Jasbir Singh Raja Gill said that pond site would be a scenic look with plantations, where the villagers could get benefit of  morning and evening walk. He said that a funds to the tune of over Rs 15 lakh was with village panchayats for its development, which would be incurred on construction of the streets, drains, sewage disposal and drinking water system. He said that various development works are being implemented in the villages for their facilitation.  He said the pace of development works in villages would be accelerated in time to come. The MLA also urged the people to constitute youth clubs and women organisations in the villages as per the vision of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to further speed up the works. On this occasion, Improvement Trust Chairman Gurvinder Singh Pabla, SDM Pankaj Bansal, Block President Keshav Saini, Raghuveer Hezma, Bhajan Singh Nainowal, Sukhwinder Singh Jhawar, Jarnail Singh Kurala, Goldy Narwal, Baljinder Kaur, Buta Singh Numberdar, Daljit Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Sodhi, Raminder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Heer, Kukku Saini and Kulwinder Kaur were also present.
