 Saksham Vashisht from Hoshiarpur Creates History by Securing First Rank in National CAG Exam

- 20-year-old student brings pride to Punjab across the country, significant contribution from teacher Mohit Mohan’s guidance

Saksham Vashisht, a 20-year-old from Hoshiarpur, has secured the first rank across India in the Level-1 examination of the Certificate Course for Accountants of Panchayat and Municipal Bodies, scoring 96 percent marks. This is the highest score ever achieved by the youngest student in this exam to date. Candidates aged 18 to 60 participate in this examination. His extraordinary achievement has created an atmosphere of joy not only in his college but throughout Punjab.

Notably, at the age of just 19, Saksham Vashisht passed the sixth semester of B.Com (Honors) at Government College, Hoshiarpur, with 90 percent marks, securing a rank in Punjab University as well.This examination is conducted by the Board for Local Bodies Accountants Certification under the ICAI Accounting Research Foundation. It is a joint initiative of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). This is the first time a student from Punjab has achieved the top rank in the Level-1 exam nationwide.The examination center for the North Zone was established in Chandigarh, and the exam took place on January 9, 2025. Students from across the country participated in this challenging exam, but Saksham Vashisht earned the highest marks through his hard work and exceptional knowledge, securing this honor. Earlier, on August 9, 2024, Saksham had also topped India in the entrance-cum-screening exam for the Certificate Course for Accountants of Panchayat and Municipal Bodies, scoring 92 percent.

Currently, Saksham Vashisht has cleared CA Inter and is pursuing his articleship. With his outstanding performance in this exam, he has proven that success can be achieved through hard work and efforts in the right direction. He is the son of Rajiv Vashisht(the Founder Chairman of the RTI Awareness Forum Punjab) and Sakshi Vashist. On this achievement of Saksham, his grandmother Shama Vashisht and the entire Vashisht family expressed their gratitude to teacher Mohit Mohan.

Speaking about his success, Saksham Vashisht credited his achievement to his teacher and mentor Mohit Mohan, as well as his parents. He said that Mohit Mohan, with his deep understanding, encouragement, and proper guidance, not only helped him prepare for this tough exam but also instilled confidence and patience in him. Saksham added that he will continue to move toward his goals with determination and strive to achieve similar success in the Chartered Accountancy exams.

Saksham’s remarkable achievement has earned him heartfelt congratulations from his family, teachers, and classmates. His mentor, Mohit Mohan, described this success as a proud moment for the institution. He stated that this accomplishment is not only a personal milestone for Saksham Vashisht but also an inspiration for students across Punjab.
